Adult Ballet Level 1A
This class is for dancers with little or no experience in classical Ballet.
Students will start by learning how to utilize and control their major muscle groups, then proceed to learn the Elementary Russian Ballet Positions and movements. Lessons will include pre-ballet preparation exercises, stretch exercises, Barre Practice with 2 hands on the barre, and minor classwork in the center.
Classes are 1 hour in length.
Adult Ballet 1A runs for 1 term (10 weeks).
There are two separate Adult Ballet Level 1A classes every week
Adult Ballet Level 1B
This course is for dancers who have some knowledge albeit limited about Russian Classical Ballet and have not progressed from working at the barre, or minor classwork in the center.
Students in Level 1B will be learning how to perform movements at the barre at a marginally faster pace and will be progressing to holding the barre with only one hand. Students will start advancing many of the basic movements that they have learned at the barre, to the center. Additionally, in Level 1B Students will start to develop basic Russian set Port De Bras, and various poses and alignments in the center practice. Students will also experience longer lessons in Level 1B with lessons being 1.5 hours in length instead of only 1 hour.
Lessons are 1.5 hours in length.
Adult Ballet Level 1B runs for 1 Semester (2 terms or 20 weeks).
Payments and Withdrawals
A registration fee of $40 is due annually.
Refunds will only be issued if Maple Leaf School of Russian Ballet cancels a class due to insufficient enrolment or in case of extreme injury and on a case by case basis. Otherwise, all class fees paid are non-transferable and non-refundable.
Adult Ballet Level 1C
This course is for dancers who have some confidence in their abilities for center work, yet are still learning elementary movements in both Barre and Center Practices.
Students in Level 1C will be learning more load-bearing movements in their Barre Practice, as well as finishing the development of their Center Practice into a complete set of exercises. 1C furth develops the student’s sense of direction and alignment, as well as starts them to develop the first movements of the Allegro Section of each Lesson. Students in 1C will notice a strong emphasis on the development of their strength and self-discipline in regard to completing these elementary-level lessons.
Level 1C is recommended for students wishing to transition from a recreational non-Russian system of training (Royal Academy of Dance, Ceccetti Society of Canada, Society of Classical Dance Vaganova Method, International Dance Teachers Association, International Society of Teachers of Dance, etc.) at the Intermediate level (or equivalent of).
Lessons are 1.5 Hours in length.
Adult Ballet 1C runs for 2 Semesters (4 Terms or 40 weeks)
There are two separate Adult Ballet Level 1C Classes every week (it is advised to register for both Classes, however, it isn’t mandatory to do so).
Adult Ballet Level 1D
This course is for students who have progressed to a level where they are confident in both Barre and Center Practices. Students Taking 1D should have adequate stamina to participate in a lesson that includes Full Barre and Center Practices, along with a Full Allegro portion of each lesson.
Level 1D completes the 1st year of training in Russian Ballet methodologies. It teaches students the travelling Elementary movements and introduces Allegro movements that involve jumping from two feet and landing on only one foot, and travelling Allegro movements from two feet landing on two feet. Level 1D also introduces and develops travelling movements involving complex footwork, may introduce some elementary pointe movements (upon recommendation by the Educating Faculty), and prepares students for some basic performing opportunities.
Adult Ballet Level 1D lessons are 1.5 hours in length.
It is advised to take a minimum of two ballet classes per week, however currently 1D is only offered once per week
